Justices Agree to Hear First Abortion Case Since 2007

The Supreme Court is taking on its first abortion case in eight years, a dispute over state regulation of abortion clinics.
The justices said Friday they will hear arguments over a Texas law that would leave about 10 abortion clinics open across the state. A decision should come by late June, four months before the presidential election.
The high court previously blocked parts of the Texas law.  Read more

70,000 March in Poland against Immigration

warsaw-demo-03

Described as the ‘largest demonstration in Polish history’, around 70,000 Polish nationalists took to the streets yesterday in the city center of Warsaw against immigration into Europe and the European Union—and in particular the latter’s demands that Poland “absorb” invaders who have flooded into Germany over the past few months. Protesters referred to the immigrants as invaders.  Read more

The American Flag is Under Attached, by The American Left

The American Left has set out to destroy America.  By taking over the education system, the Left is accomplishing its goal of convincing American youth that America is bad.  And by convincing them of that fact, they now are convinced that the American Flag represents evil, racism, hatred, and colonialism.
The Left tried this several years ago by convincing many, especially Blacks, that the Confederate Flag represented racism, hatred and the love of slavery.  But in the end, the protests and boycotts failed miserably and the fight to eliminate the Confederate Flag where dropped.
There are those on the Left that want to take “One Nation Under God” out of the “Pledge of Allegiance”.  The Left wants the “Star Spangled Banner” not to be played or sung before sporting events.  These misguided efforts are not progressing like the Left would like.  There efforts to destroy America and its great history of service to mankind are failing.
There are many brave Americans who are still willing to stand at attention and salute and honor the American Flag .  Many Americans and non-Americans fully understand  the greatness that ‘Old Glory” represents.  It is not just a flag, it stands Freedom, Liberty and the Sacrifice of millions to keep America strong and free.  Flying the American Flag is an honor and privilege that every American should take upon themselves to do daily.
You have probably heard the phrase “if the American Flag offends you, I will help you pack”.  If you are one of those that think the American Flag stands for evil, racism, hatred, and colonialism, that’s fine.  But don’t use those misguided and indoctrinated beliefs to bring down the greatest nation on earth.
Dennis Prager wrote a great article today addressing the un-American actions at a California university.

The brutal Draconian laws of ancient Greece

A carving of Draco in the US Supreme Court Library

Athens is perhaps most famous for being the birthplace of democracy. One of the cornerstones for the establishment of Athenian democracy was the introduction of a written law code that could only be enforced by a court. The institution of such a law code eliminated the (often unjust) interpretation of oral laws which were once the prerogative of the Athenian aristocrats. The man who was responsible for providing Athens with a written law code was a man known as Draco. As one may already suspect from the common usage of the term ‘draconian’, which is synonymous with severity, Draco’s laws were brutal.  Read more

Ancient Greece’s Legacy for Liberty: Public Services in Athens

Ancient Athens, like most political communities then and now, funded its public services largely through a combination of taxation and forced labor (the latter ranging from military conscription for the “free” to full-fledged chattel slavery for the unfree).  Such services included public funding for the arts; for example, wealthy citizens each year would be selected by the state for the “honor” of funding comic or tragic dramas at the periodic public festivals.  Read more

College students confront subtler forms of bias: slights and snubs

USC students vote in favor of diversity

It looks like people are going around looking for ways to be offended.  Richard Medlock

USC junior Vanessa Diaz was raised in Dallas. But at a party two years ago, she was asked if she could speak English.
When Diaz became offended, the other student tried to pass off the question as a joke. But it did not amuse her, any more than the idea of Mexican-themed parties on Greek Row featuring students in sombreros and fake mustaches.
"Because of the society we live in, it's not OK to be overtly racist," Diaz said. "But that doesn't mean everything is OK."  Red more

Hillary’s Outpacing of Endorsements Signals the Game May Be Rigged in Her Favor

DNC Chair's decision to penalize candidates for debating outside of sanctioned events demonstrates favoritism for Ms. Clinton

Although Senator Bernie Sanders has caucused with the Democrats, he is still seen as an outsider—one free of the hierarchy and drama within the party itself. Given this history, and the dictator-like leadership of Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, it is no surprise that very few endorsements have gone in favor of Mr. Sanders over Hillary Clinton. Ms. Clinton also led in endorsements when initially running against Barrack Obama, with many defecting once primary polls began favoring the current president.  Read more

U.S.. retail sales barely rise in October, up scant 0.1%

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Sales at U.S. retailers rose just 0.1% in October, held down by lower spending at gas stations, auto dealers and grocery stores. Economists polled by MarketWatch had forecast a seasonally adjusted 0.4% increase. Although the number of autos sold last month was quite strong, sales fell a seasonally adjusted 0.5%, perhaps suggesting heavier discounting. Sales at gas stations also fell again, but that's a good thing for consumers. Stripping out gas and autos, sales rose a somewhat better 0.3%, the Commerce Department said Friday. So-called control group sales that factor into GDP rose 0.2%. In September, sales were revised lower to show no gain.
