The inspired declaration that all
people "are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights"
and that among these are "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness"
finds profound meaning when viewed through the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
While the Declaration of Independence speaks of these rights in a civic and
political sense, they also reflect eternal principles established by our
Heavenly Father long before the foundation of the world. The Plan of Salvation
reveals that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are not merely
political ideals—they are sacred gifts that originate with God and are central
to His eternal purposes for His children.
